Wallace & Smith Contractors was founded in Bakersfield, CA in 1950 by Henry Wallace and Earl Smith. Bart Wallace and George “Bob” Smith, the next generation, acquired the company in 1983 and continued to develop the business with many of the original employees.
Paul Cooper joined the firm in 1989 and became a partner in 2008. The Company has maintained a steadfast and significant presence in the San Joaquin Valley for decades and has continued to expand, opening a Central Coast office in Santa Barbara, CA in 2022.

Our Company specializes in commercial, multi-family, industrial, institutional, agricultural, and aerospace building construction, with licenses in California and Nevada. Over the years we have acquired expertise in many types of construction including wood-framed; concrete tilt-up; masonry; steel framed; and pre-engineered steel. We are an authorized representative for CBC Steel Buildings, A Nucor Company.
